Playing an Opponent Who Always Calls Your Continuation Bet
|
Playing an opponent who always calls your continuation bet is very frustrating. When you are trying to pick up small, uncontested pots, this type of opponent makes it very difficult. It is very difficult to put him on a hand since he could be calling with any two cards. Most times you will not hit the flop yourself and you will have some difficult decisions coming up. There are only two types of adjustments we can make while playing these types of opponents. The safe way would be to tighten up and only play good hands against this guy. A more aggressive and higher variance strategy would be to bet him out on the turn or river. If our opponent is scared of big turn and river bets, we can bluff him all day long. The decisions will become a lot tougher as we don't really know if he is going to call or not. We are basically guessing if he will fold to a bet on the turn or river. Observation of your opponent's past play will tell you everything you need to know. If your opponent often steals on the river, you can play premium and check your big hands on the turn. If your opponent often folds to a bet on the turn or river, you can bet him off pots all day. It really depends on how your opponent plays. There are opponents who will call down all the way to the river with weak hands. There are also opponents who call on the flop but give up the hand most times to a bigger bet. It is your job to observe these patterns and exploit them to the fullest. Stay focused on your opponent and you will own them.
