Texas Hold'em

Texas hold’em is the most popular of all poker games due to the exposure of it on television and has had huge success in North America, Europe and continues to spread worldwide.  Hold’em is broken up into three individual games in which each takes a different approach to how to bet.  The three styles of game are limit hold’em, pot limit hold’em and of course no limit hold’em.
In these games there are 4 betting rounds.

Blinds are posted every round by the two seats to the left of the “the button” which is the “dealer” of that particular round.  The left seat closest to the button places half the smallest bet and the second left from the button places the smallest bet.  These are the small and big blind and are the starting money in every pot.  The button moves clockwise after every hand of hold’em.  Some games may have an ante in which case every player puts up money as well as the two blinds.

At this point every player is dealt two cards, dealing starts at the small blind position and proceeds clockwise.  These cards are you’re down (hole) cards.

Betting round now starts at the player to the left of the big blind (considered to be under the gun) and continues clockwise.  The player has the option to call or raise.

After the first betting round is over three cards (the flop) will be dealt which are called community cards.  This is now the beginning of the second betting round and action is now on the player to the left of the button. The player may check (make no bet), bet or fold and play continues clockwise until bets are complete.

The dealer flips another community card (the turn) and begins another betting round starting from the seat to the left of the button.  Again the options are to check to your opponent, bet or fold.

When betting is finished for that round a final community card is shown (the river) and the last round begins.  Again starting from the left of the button betting begins, and the same options are available check, bet or fold.

The player with the best five-card hand (made with the five community cards and the two hole cards) wins the pot.  A player can win pot by others folding at any point during the betting rounds and is not required to make or show a hand.  A player may use both, one or none of the cards in their hole.  If multiple players share the same hand at showdown then the pot will be divided accordingly (example. Two players both play an ace high straight at showdown and the pot is divided in half to share).

Limit, No Limit and Pot Limit Holdem
Texas Hold'em rules remain the same for limit, no limit and pot limit poker games, except for these betting differences.

Limit Hold'em
In limit hold'em a maximum of four bets is allowed per player during any betting round. This includes a bet, raise, re-raise, and cap (the final raise), but in no limit Hold'em and pot limit hold'em there is no limit to the number of raises that a player can make.

No Limit Hold'em
In no limit hold'em, the raise amount must be at least as much as the previous bet or raise in the same round.  If you are opening the pot then you must bet a minimum amount equivalent to the big blind amount.  Example, if the first player to act bets $10 then the second player must raise a minimum of $10 (total bet of $20).  Also, at any action the player can bet all the chips in possession (moving all-in).

Pot Limit Hold'em
The raise amount must be at least as much as the previous bet or raise in the same round. If you are opening the pot then you must bet a minimum amount equivalent to the big blind amount.  Example, if the first player to act bets $10 then the second player must raise a minimum of $10 (total bet of $20).  The maximum bet in pot limit hold’em is the amount of the current pot, which includes all bets in that particular round.
