C

Call: To match the current bet and stay in the hand.

Call Cold: To call both bet and raise.

Calling Station: A player who calls too often.  Usually a weak player who will call most bets to make any hand.  Some also call them an “ATM” due to the fact that they will pay you off.

Cap: To max out the amount of bets allowed in a particular betting round. 

Card: A flat, rectangular object made from paper used to represent a specific value and suit.  A standard deck of cards used in poker has 52 and is made up of spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds.

Card room: A place where poker is played.  Usually refers to an area in a casino or an online site.

Cards Speak: The fact that the value of your cards is all that’s needed to win a hand, your word matters not in poker.

Case Card: The last card of a particular rank or suit.

Case chips: A players last chips.

Catching Cards: When cards being dealt are helping you win hands.

Chase: To stick around in a hand in hopes to make one.  Usually refers to someone who has little chance of actually making it.

Check: An option to bet nothing as long as no player has bet before you on that particular betting round.

Check-Raise: When you first check and then someone bets and it returns to you, you raise. Used to trap players who otherwise probably would have folded if you had initially bet.

Chips: Round object made of clay or plastic that is used on poker tables, which represent your money in a game.

Chop: Dividing winnings up between some players who have come to an agreement.  Seen on final tables of big tournaments and in many online games.

Club: One of the four suits in a deck of 52.

Coffee Housing: To talk about your hand during the round, usually with the intent of misleading the other players. Not considered ethical, but still practiced. 
Collusion: When players conspire to cheat in a poker game.

Community Cards: Board cards shared by all players in the hand that are dealt face up.

Connectors: Cards of consecutive rank.  If cards are same suit they are considered “suited connectors”.

Counterfeit: When a hand becomes less powerful due to community cards dealt.

Cowboys: Being dealt Kings in the hole.

Crack: To beat a big hand, usually when the hand is a big pocket pair.

Crying Call: A call by a player who is sure to lose the pot.

Cut: To split the deck of cards and reverse the halves before the cards are dealt.
